The betting for Saturday's Turnbull Stakes has been turned inside out by the surprise withdrawal of last year's winner Green Moon.

His owner Lloyd Williams made the shock decision on Thursday morning to withdraw Green Moon, along with stablemate Sea Moon, from the Flemington Group 1, and their absence paves their way for his classy miler Fawkner to line up.

Fawkner would have had to sit out the Turnbull both Green Moon and Sea Moon, and the move confirms rumours that he is the stable's stand-out had Williams not sacrificed contender for the Cups this spring.

Luxbet make him a $21 chance for the Caulfield Cup, which is scheduled for Saturday October 19, and at $10 for this Saturday's Turnbull Stakes, behind new favourite and Melbourne Cup fancy Puissance De Lune at $4 (subject to change).

The Turnbull has been a happy hunting ground for Williams as he has won the Group 1 three out of the past four years with Green Moon, Zipping (2010), and Efficient (2009).

Green Moon will now run next Saturday in the Caulfield Stakes over 2000m, while Sea Moon will tackle the 2500m Bart Cummings Stakes at Listed level on Saturday, giving that race an injection of much needed quality.

Williams also confirmed that he will be sending Masked Marvel, Mourayan and Seville to Sydney. The first-named is set to tackle the Craven Plate, with Mourayan and Seville destined for the Group 1 Metropolitan Handicap.
