Here are the best three roughies to back for the day, each-way:

Flemington Race 4 - 2:25PM Yellowglen Vintage Stakes (1400 METRES)

The Mick Price-trained Manhattan Avenue lines up in Race 4 for the three-year-olds at Flemington and should be a big improver. You can forget he ever went around at his last start at Caulfield when he hung out very badly on the home turn and was eased out of the race. Prior to that, the promising youngster looked very smart winning at Bendigo over 1500m in what has proven to be a good form race. Manhattan Avenue defeated Justaway and Firehouse Rock who then came out and won the Caulfield race. If Manhattan Avenue can run up to his Bendigo form he should be a great chance to turn things around this weekend. He will get a nice run from Barrier 5 and is great value at the $17.
Bet: Manhattan Avenue ($17w and $4p at

Randwick Race 7 - 4:00PM The Star Epsom (1600 METRES)

A lot of the pre-race Epsom talk has been about the Chris Waller-trained gallopers but it may be worth considering fellow top trainer Gai Waterhouse. The leading lady has a tremendous record in this race with seven wins in the past and trains a few roughies this year in Pheidon, Woodbine and Liberty’s Choice. Of that trio, Woodbine may be best placed to provide an upset. The four-year-old chestnut ticks a lot of boxes. He is a last start winner and sneaks into the field with just 52kg. He also has a great record at the track and has some super form on top of the ground with four wins from seven starts. Last time in he ran home very well from the back of the field to defeat Amovatio and Murder Of Crows at Rosehill over 1350m. He drops 6kg for that effort. Four-year-olds also have a great record in this race having won 12 of the past 16 editions of the famous Randwick mile race. At the $26 price, Woodbine is great value.
Bet: Woodbine ($26w and $7.50p at

Flemington Race 7 - 4:20PM Turnbull Stakes (2000 METRES)

Green Moon lines up for billionaire owner Lloyd Williams in the day’s feature and is well worth a punt at the $34. Williams owned gallopers have won three of the past five Turnbull Stakes, including Green Moon’s victory in 2012 and the Melbourne Cup (3200m) winner in the same year should be ready to fire at his second run back. He has a terrific record over 2000m at Flemington with two placings to complement his Turnbull win. These include a solid runner-up performance in the autumn behind star galloper Fiorente in the Australian Cup (2000m). Green Moon has the versatility to press forward or settle back from the wide barrier and will right in the mix towards the end of the race.
